The 2024 Joint ANZAAG/ISPAR Symposium was held at The W Hotel, Melbourne, Australia, from 15–17 November 2024, under the theme “Expect the Unexpected.”
The symposium brought together local and international experts in perioperative allergy and anaphylaxis for a multidisciplinary programme of lectures, workshops, interactive discussions, and case-based learning.
Key topics included perioperative antibiotic allergy, cefazolin allergy, hidden and unexpected allergens, paediatric perioperative allergy, NMBD-related anaphylaxis, mast cell disorders and biomarkers, drug provocation, and communication after perioperative anaphylaxis.
The programme also featured practical workshops on anaphylaxis management and perioperative allergy testing, with input from both anaesthetists and allergists.
A highlight of the meeting was the inaugural Malcolm Fisher Prize session, recognising outstanding work in perioperative allergy and anaphylaxis.
